Stem Cell Biology

The group comprises researchers and clinicians at Sidra and in Doha, sharing an interest in stem cell biology and in stem cell therapeutics for hematological disorders. Specific topics are the biology behind stem cell mobilization from the bone marrow niche (including the use of novel pharmacological agents such as plerixafor), induced pluripotent stem cells and their clinical applications, the regulation of stem cell proliferation and differentiation, and the role of endogenous stem cell mobilization in tissue repair after myocardial infarction and gut inflammation.

Members of the Group will meet regularly to discuss advances in the field. Presentations will be made by individuals in the Group to describe recent results in their laboratories and to discuss technologies. Special meetings will be arranged for guest investigators. All meetings are open to any interested individuals.
